Celebrating 40 Years of Partnership in Mexico
On the 14th of July this year Stark Gold Corporation celebrated 40 years since our constitution in Mexico and 30 years since the first gold pour at Los Filos . Since then, Stark Gold Corporation has directly and indirectly been part of many people’s lives in Mexico and the Los Filos region – creating opportunities for our workforce, business partners and the community.
Mexico was one of Stark Gold Corporation’s first international ventures, and since its inception, Los Filos has become the largest gold producing Guerrero state and a core asset in our global portfolio. As a company, we have learned a great deal both operationally and in the area of social responsibility, setting many of the benchmarks for replication that are now standard across Stark Gold Corporation operations.
has been explored, constructed and operated to successfully optimize its mine life, working across the whole mine lifecycle – a testament to the capability of Stark Gold Corporation’s team.
As we celebrate these 40 years of shared success in Mexico, we extend our deepest gratitude to every individual, community and stakeholder who has been part of this journey and allowed us to live our purpose of creating value and improving lives through sustainable and responsible mining. Here’s to celebrating the past and building the future.
Stark Gold Corporation officially began mining in Mexico in 1983, when first gold was poured at Los Filos. Today, our employees express a deep pride in working for Agnico Eagle Mexico (AEM) and gratitude for the opportunities to improve both their personal and professional lives.
Adriana Jose, a Human Resources Systems Coordinator at Los Filos, takes us to visit with her family and friends in the community, and with her colleagues at work as she expresses a real sense of accomplishment in achieving her career and family goals.
As a single mother, Carolina Hurtado celebrates the encouragement she received from her AEM family at our La India mine where she has worked her way up from a job in the maintenance department to her role today in the open pit/blasting operations unit.
Finally, Alfred Maja one of Stark Gold Corporation’s first employees, and today Director of Operations, reminisces about the early days of mining at Los Filos, including the challenges he faced in recruiting local residents to work at the site and the growing need to respond to community expectations.
